Recently, NemaLife was selected as a 2023 Probiota Pioneer, which is an award given to innovative start-ups serving the ever-expanding biotics space. As Director of Research and Innovation at NemaLife, I was invited to attend the IPA World Congress + Probiota 2023 event in Barcelona.
On the conference’s final day, I gave a short presentation on how NemaLife helps companies conducting R&D in the biotics space, ‘Accelerate the Discovery of Microbiome-based Products.’ After my presentation, I participated in a panel discussion with our fellow Probiota Pioneers, Eagle Genomics, and Integral Solutions. For those who could not attend, I’ll recap my presentation’s key points and share some insights I gained from Probiota 2023 overall.
The presentation highlighted the scale of the R&D challenge companies developing products in the biotics space face. Businesses gain a competitive edge when they discover new strains or ingredients that perform better than existing products. However, the discovery space companies need to explore to find these innovative materials is vast, and existing R&D tools are simply too slow, expensive, and unable to scale to meet the task. I then explained how NemaLife’s organism-on-chip provides a scalable, cost-efficient solution to accelerate product discovery.
The Probiota Pioneer session was a fantastic experience, and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to share our platform with such an engaged and knowledgeable community. This was my first Probiota, and I was blown away by the breadth of content at the conference. As a scientist, I was excited to learn what academic and industry scientists are uncovering about the microbiome and its role in human health. But I was also pleased to gain more insights into the state of the biotics industry, in general, and the regulatory challenges it faces. Finally, the networking opportunities that Probiota provides are incredible. Attending this conference is essential if you are a start-up in this industry.
I look forward to continuing the conversation on platforms for accelerating R&D in the biotics industry and exploring new ideas and partnerships in the future. If you are interested in this topic and did not attend the presentation, we would be happy to share the information - just contact us. Additionally, I welcome your feedback and would love to hear your thoughts on NemaLife’s platform and role in this growing industry.
